In the early 1940s, René Gruau, a young designer of Italian origin, conquered the world of fashion. As a friend of the greatest fashion designers in the making, such as Pierre Balmain, Christian Dior, Jacques Fath and Hubert de Givenchy, he drew their models and even inspired some of their creations.
His illustrations and virtuoso advertising campaigns can be seen in major magazines and newspapers around the world.
Imagining the faces of Miss Dior, Rouge Baiser, the campaigns of the Scandal stockings, the Lido or the Moulin Rouge, Gruau conquered a solid reputation thanks to his unique stroke. He disappeared in the early 2000s but continues to inspire many designers.
This book, edited by Joëlle Charriau, is very richly illustrated and gives an account of an important part of the artist's creation.
