Catalog of the exhibition Picasso in front of nature organized at the Musée Départemental du Domaine de Sceaux, in collaboration with the Musée Picasso Paris in 2017.
"All the images we have of nature, it is to the painters that we owe them. It is through them that we perceive them. This alone should make them suspect."
Picasso in Brassaï, Conversations with Picasso, Paris, Gallimard, 1997, p. 213.
Picasso, student and master of nature, not only from the point of view of art history but also from that of the vital world, animal and vegetable, which surrounds him, such is the project, unpublished, of the exhibition which gave birth to this catalog.
Beyond the simple census of the subjects, animal or vegetable, which cross the work of the artist, it wishes to study the position of Picasso vis-a-vis nature, the way in which it is inspired of its forms, of its generating principle.
